The
Blackwood is the longest river in the south-west of Western Australia, draining
a huge area from the wheatbelt right through the whole region. It eventually
meets the sea at Augusta, where it broadens and slows into an estuarine system
that teems with wildlife.
Augusta Eco Cruises gives you a unique opportunity to witness first hand this fascinating aquatic environment. We run two daily cruises from the fishermen's jetty at Augusta up in to the virginal beauty of the river, the breeding grounds for not only endemic birds, but also visitors from far distant lands.
We often encounter pods of dolphins that play alongside the boat and at other times huge pelicans, wild ducks and other more exotic birds greet us. Overhead sea eagles soar and at nesting time they can be seen tending their young in precarious nests.
