Paul Kelly at Xanadu

One of Australia’s finest song writers returns to Western Australia to perform at the picturesque Xanadu Winery in Margaret River.

paulkelly.jpgFrom very early in his career Paul Kelly has been recognised as one of the most significant singer/songwriters in the country.

Inspired initially by the likes of Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Lou Reed and Ray Davies, Kelly’s narrative song writing is infused with wry observations, bittersweet emotions and enormous appeal.

Described with the simple headline “Paul Kelly, Inspirational”, and “Has Paul Kelly ever played a dud gig?”, and declared by Polly Coufos of the Perth Sunday Times, to be “So good in fact it’s frightening” his reviews speak for themselves.

Performing in the scenic surroundings of the award winning Xanadu Wines, with his five piece band, consisting of nephew Dan Kelly, Even leader Ash Naylor, Cameron Bruce and long time rhythm section Peter Luscombe and Bill McDonald, this is a show not to be missed!

Having both grown as strong independent acts that are now making waves around the world, the John Butler Trio and The Waifs are undoubtedly two of WA’s most prolific acts and they are thrilled to announce a special series of shows under the banner of ‘The Union of Soul.’

The Waifs are riding high with their new album SunDirtWater debuting at No.2 on the Aria charts and remaining in the top 20 for the last 8 weeks. The Waifs will be featured in one of the new episodes of Chaser War On Everything.
They have recently completed a sell out tour of the nation, securing rave reviews for their concert performances.

It’s been an extraordinary ride for the John Butler Trio this year with their new album ‘Grand National’ debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA charts in March. Since then the album has delivered three radio hit singles and gone on to be accredited for double platinum sales in Australia whilst the band makes incredible in roads into all major international territories. The album is also nominated for the prestigious J Award (Triple J’s album of the year) which will be announced by Triple J later this year.

In April, the John Butler Trio recorded a very special performance at Melbourne’s Federation Square which featured all the musicians who helped make the ‘Grand National’ album, we are pleased to inform fans this is now available on DVD through ABC Music.

In other recent news, The John Butler Trio took out two awards at the 21st ARIA awards last weekend, those being for Best Blues and Roots Release and Best Independent Release, which coincidentally was presented by their good friends Vikki and Donna from The Waifs.

Getting these two popular and well travelled bands performing on the same stage on the same night is an event unquestionably not to be missed, so grab your tickets to The Union of Soul tour before it’s too late!

Brothers to show their jewellery skills

Francois and Nicholas Payet are brothers who have been creating beautiful jewellery together for more than a decade.

pendant.jpgFrancois’ interest in jewellery developed at a young age, creating and designing from the initial stages of his unofficial apprenticeship when he was just sixteen.

His talent for design has extended over the years with progression to his own retail outlets in Melbourne.

In February, 2006 Francois and his wife Cate took over the ownership of margaret river gallery after relocating with their family from Melbourne.

Accompanying him was his brother Nicholas who has been working with Francois since the early 1990s.

Two in a family of seven children, the Payet brothers spent their childhood in the beautiful Seychelles Islands until 1970 when their parents moved to Victoria.

In their up coming exhibition, Francois and Nicholas invite you to celebrate their stunning new range of jewellery crafted a l’etabli (at the bench) in their workspace in the margaret river gallery.

earings31.jpgConstantly inspired by the intoxicating appeal of precious metals, pearls and gems, the Payet brothers work to create a variety of specialised finishes and textured surfaces to compliment the simple elegance of their nature based designs.

Working with combinations of yellow gold , rose gold, palladium and silver, each piece is carefully considered then crafted with absolute respect for and appreciation of these exquisite materials.

This exceptional range of limited edition work includes jewellery for both men and women to enjoy.
“A l’etabli” officially opens November 17th from 6-8pm at the margaret river gallery and continues until December 3.
