Margaret River painter, Sam Broadhurst, has been experimenting with pointillism as an advancement of his well known style and the results will be shown at an exhibition at the margaret river gallery, opening on Easter Saturday.
The exhibition is titled Consider the Moment and will be on show at the main street gallery until April 6.
Of the showing Mr Broadhurst said: “Consider the Moment is an exhibition of paintings with absolute focus on the natural world…..the only trace of man may be the windblown footprints patterning a coastal wilderness.
“Each image captures the details that are totally unique to that particular moment. Although we are rarely aware, in the next second the light has changed with a passing cloud, a plant has flattened against the wind or the dunes have shifted just ever so slightly.
“In the lead up to this exhibition I investigated a variety of art from pre and post impressionism …. I have been painting in a more impressionistic style for a while now and was curious to explore the art styles that led in and out of this period… in particular the way of creating detail through pointillism.
“This use of small dabs and dots of colour give a painting a greater sense of vibrancy when seen from a distance. By setting down the feeling, colour and tonal qualities on site, I then select areas of an image to work intensely with tiny brushes, leaving others with softer more impressionistic strokes. This combination varies from piece to piece dependent on the experience of the place I am seeking to create.’ “
