Planted
in 1986 prior to Margaret River gaining world class notoriety as a
wine region, AbbeyVale has forged a path that typifies the trials and
tribulations that are often encountered by pioneers.
AbbeyVale recently
changed ownership and with this comes a new wave of enthusiasm and
energy.
Viticulturist Phil May heads AbbeyVale. His extensive career in the
Australian wine industry includes positions in South Australia, the
Yarra Valley and most recently ten years as chief at Smithbrook in
Pemberton, Western Australia, where he developed a brand that was one
of the most awarded in the region during his time.
The next generation of AbbeyVale wines will celebrate the successes
of the brand’s founders and move forward, showcasing the varietal
treasures of Margaret River.
From mature estate vines and premium Margaret
River grape resources AbbeyVale will introduce luscious and complex
wines to the tables of those who know a good drop.
Guinea fowl feature in the new branding to reflect the company’s
minimalist vineyard chemical input philosophy. Visitors will see hundreds
of Guinea fowl hard at work daily in the vineyard as part of the pest
control program. |
